Okay, I admit I'm not slim, 165 lb for 5'5''. I normally wear a size 12 for most pants (not TNF, because their sizing is weird), and I have purchased a pair of Patagonia shorts in 12 and they fit just fine. I intentionally bought these rock guide pants in 14 so they will fit slightly large, but they turned out to be extremely small! I could pull them up but they were NOT comfortable! Girls, if you have a small waist and large bottom, these pants are most definitely NOT going to fit right. They seem to be very good shorts, good construction and quality fabric, but they don't fit well on a pear-shaped girl.

Layering up this winter doesn't necessarily imply bulking up on binding and confining fabrics--especially if you're wearing this warm and lightweight Women's TKA 100 Microvelour Glacier 1/4-Zip Shirt from The North Face. It's a perfect pullover that you can wear as a baselayer for skiing, climbing, hiking or snowboarding in snowy conditions, or as a top during aprs ski or hanging out with friends in your cozy winter rental place. While cheap conventional fleece tops often pill beneath a ski sweater or middle layer, the Polartec Classic polyester Microvelour fleece keeps it all together without snags or frayed fabric--even through several seasons of regular use. The lightweight, highly breathable fabric facilitates drying, even if you're hanging it up with the rest of your laundered camping clothing in the summer backcountry. The North Face designed their Women's Women's TKA 100 Microvelour Glacier 1/4-Zip Shirt with a relaxed fit and an extended length with a one-inch drop tail in the back for added coverage. The Polartec Classic polyester Microvelour fleece is UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rated at 30 for moderate UV ray protection in bright alpine conditions.

This is such a great fleece, when I accidentally "destroyed" it, I almost cried! Overall it's quite warm despite its incredibly light weight. The sleeves are at the right length for my slightly long arms. I'm 165 cm (5'5'') and about 165 lb with a pear shape body, and the medium fits very nicely on me over a t-shirt. It's definitely durable, but BE CAREFUL! I have machine washed it a few times and air dried it, and that seemed to be okay. My boyfriend did my laundry once and put it in the drier on high. Most of the fleece on this shirt was okay, but on several spots where the drier heat was too much, or perhaps these spots hesitated a bit more on the sizzling metal in the drier. On these spots the fleece burnt and so did my heart. In short, DO NOT repeat my mistake and leave your precious TNF fleece shirt with guys who don't read labels! Also, hurry up and grab your next favorite fleece shirt that you will live in before winter hits.

Very nice pair of hiking pants from Mountain Hardwear. I can't comment on the durability of this pair of pants, since I just received it, but upon arrival of these, I couldn't wait to jump in them and they are very lightweight and loose around my legs. I liked the velvety lined waist, nice and soft. All in all, a very nice pair of pants, can't wait to take them to the mountains with me!

This jacket is uber warm if you layer it under a waterproof shell or soft shell. Super lightweight construction, and folds into its chest pocket. Good for packing into your backpack and opening up when you're cold. The fit is good, but a bit tight around the tummy if you're not super fit.
Pros Great design, Performance, Great value, lightweight

This hat is so cute! The material is very soft, and it fits perfectly since it's also somewhat stretchy. A very comfortable hat for most of the winter in Maryland.

Hiking in BC, the winds blow over the glaciers and deliver a chilly breeze that seems to cut right through your cotton sweatshirt and raise the goose bumps; and this is summer! Good thing your little one is wearing The North Face Boy's Glacier 1/4 Zip Shirt. Made from lightweight Polartec 100 polyester fleece, he's got an alternative to sweatshirts and sweaters on summer camping trips and a warm mid layer to wear under his ski jacket in the winter. Less bulky than thicker fleece jackets, the relaxed fit gives him room to layer underneath while the quarter-length zipper at the neck gives him ventilation options and makes this long sleeve fleece top easy to pull on and off. Quality fleece fabric and TNF iron-clad construction means The North Face Glacier 1/4 Zip Shirt for boys resists pilling to keep it looking sharp enough for the schoolyard.

I am buying for my 8 year old sons

Just need some help with size for kids. Buying fleece and a jackets northface and not sure whether to order small or medium. I have twin boys 8 years old of average height for their age. Was going to order medium in the jackets and small in the fleece. We are travelling to Norway later in the year and they are likely to grow in the coming months. Any thoughts?
Layman's thought: get both the fleeces and the jackets in medium because they should wear something under the fleece to absorb sweat, if there is any. The fleece is nice and soft when it's just against the skin, but it doesn't really vent sweat out from the inside, and it can be quite nasty and unhealthy if they have to sit in their sweat for hours.
